Understanding Risks in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to natural hazards, including floods, cyclones and earthquakes. Between 1980 and 2008, the country experienced 219 natural disasters causing damages in excess of US$16 billion. Preparedness has dramatically improved over the years resulting in a reduction of casualties from these events. However, much remains to be done.
An open data sharing platform has been created for Bangladesh and it is soon to be launched officially.
OpenDRI efforts in Bangladesh lead to the mapping of 8,500 buildings, of which 540 have historical significance, and 93 km of roads and drainage works,
