Planning An Open Cities Mapping Project

The Open Cities guide is a tool for practitioners who wish to bring community mapping initiatives to their cities or regions. The guide documents lessons learned from the regional Open Cities Africa program and its predecessors in South Asia to offer best practices on the design and implementation of a community mapping initiative. Community mapping efforts often result in increased awareness of disaster risk within governments and a consensus within ministries that this risk must be reduced.

Though this original work is a product of GFDRR and OpenDRI in partnership with HOT, to keep this guide up-to-date and truly open source a live online version of the document can be viewed at http://gfdrr.github.io/community-mapping/. It is hosted on GitHub under a public domain license. We welcome contributions of new content and case studies submitted as pull requests or issues.
